Blog # 6-Prison Journal Entry (due tonight)

Although the majority of you have yet to experience life inside of a prison cell, you have probably watched television shows, movies or news reports that provide you with insight into a prison. Thinking about this knowledge, write a journal entry from the perspective of an inmate living in a jail cell.

This journal entry should discuss:
+the environment
+the interaction with other prisoners
+what you see everyday/ how you live
+what it smells like
+what you hear
+your feelings on why you are there and how it is making you feel, etc.

Before and during your writing, give intense thought to this experience. Try as best as possible to put yourself in the mindset of a prisoner living in jail. Live their experience.

Intro Blogs- Goals & Expectations

In life, it is always important to set personal goals and expectations for yourself.  Goals give us something to focus on and work towards. As you move through your high school career, we will work to help you foster goals and set higher expectations for yourself, both inside and outside of this classroom.

As you write your introductory blog, I would like you to think about and discuss the following:
1) What are my goals as a student at New Milford HS this year?
2) Discuss 1-2 positive things that you will continue to do as you move through your 2nd/3rd/4th year at NMHS
3) Discuss 1-2 things that you will work on as either a student or as an individual this year
4) Describe one reason that you are looking forward to this class
5) Lastly, tell us about who ______________________ is!

Blog #5- RADIO & Socialization- (Due Monday 11/4)

In studying socialization we have discussed the importance of acquiring culture, language and thought.  There are a variety of factors that influence our own behavior as well as a number that demonstrate how we impact others.  While watching "Radio" we see a number of relationships and social interactions that occur as a result of our influences from agents of socialization such as family, peer group and school.

Throughout the course of the film, Radio (Cuba Gooding Jr) is a prime example of someone who benefits from the process of socialization.  Discuss in detail how his character's life is affected by both lack of socialization (beginning) and emergence of socialization (middle) and as a product of socialization (end).  Describe scenes and interactions from the movie that highlight Radio's interaction and socialization process. Lastly, write a reaction to your feelings throughout the film. How did you feel about Radio, Coach Jones, the people of Hanna, and the football team?
